Dr. Azizzadeh Interview
1. How long you have been a plastic surgeon? [Babak Azizzadeh,
M.D.] I finished medical school in 1996 and then pursued training
in facial plastic surgery with a focus on rhinoplasty. I moved
to Beverly Hills in 2003.
2. How many Rhinoplasties have you done in that period? [Babak
Azizzadeh, M.D.] I perform on average about 100-120 rhinoplasty
and nasal reconstruction procedures per year
3. What do you specifically love about the Rhinoplasty procedure?[Babak
Azizzadeh, M.D.] It is a four dimensional operation; three
dimensions of anatomy and time as the fourth dimension. It
is an operation that requires both artistic and scientific
talent to be executed perfectly. The surgeon need to have
an eye for what is beautiful and the technical skills to make
it happen.
4. Besides Rhinoplasties what other procedure do you feel
you excel at ?[Babak Azizzadeh, M.D.] My main area of expertise
relies on the nose, face and eyes. I am a big believer that
surgeons who perform certain operations in a well-defined
region of the body do it best. Facial and nasal beauty go
hand in hand and this is the main reason I love performing
facial and nasal plastic surgery.
5. Do you consider the Rhinoplasty procedure as one of the
hardest procedures?
if so why?[Babak Azizzadeh, M.D.] I think that every plastic
surgeon will tell you that rhinoplasty is the hardest plastic
surgical procedure. The main reason is that no two noses are
the same and the techniques and artistic issues are very complex.
6. Also should anyone considering the Rhinoplasty procedure
go to any plastic
surgeon? [Babak Azizzadeh, M.D.] I really believe that the
surgeon must have tremendous amount of experience in rhinoplasty.
You wouldn't want to have a heart transplant performed by
a liver surgeon?
7. Was there any surgeons who were instrumental in your success
at become a
plastic surgeon?[Babak Azizzadeh, M.D.] I am a big history
buff and my current rhinoplasty practice has been influenced
by the masters such as Jacques Joseph, Calvin Johnson, Jack
Sheen and Eugene Tardy.
8. Can you give us your philosophy regarding plastic surgery
in general? [Babak Azizzadeh, M.D.] The key to the obtaining
the best possible rhinoplasty result is correct facial and
nasal analysis. The surgeon needs to truly understand what
nose will fit the particular patient. The best rhinoplasty
outcomes are ones that other individuals cannot recognize
as "being done." This can only be achieved if the
eyes have become the focus of the face and the nose does not
stand out in any manner possible. You also need to recognize
functional issues (breathing, sinus disorders, snoring) and
address them: beauty and form go hand in hand.
9. Dr. Azizzadeh do you ever turn people away .. if so why?
[Babak Azizzadeh, M.D.] Yes: some patients are not good candidates
for surgery. They may not need surgery to improve their concern
or they may not be psychologically ready for surgery.
10. Dr. Azizzadeh many visitors that come to our site are
looking to revise a
previous Rhinoplasty. are you skilled at revision Rhinoplasty?
and How much of
your work would you say is fixing the mistakes of other surgeons?[Babak
Azizzadeh, M.D.] I love revision rhinoplasty and more than
half of my rhinoplasty procedures are secondary or tertiary
procedures. The challenge of revision rhinoplasty is the main
reason I love doing these procedures.
11. Dr. Azizzadeh thank you so much for doing the interview
with us. Is there
anything you would like to add before we conclude? [Babak
Azizzadeh, M.D.] Thank you so much
